You run long distances and you want to know why your knee hurts? Play sports when your knee gets better and run a few miles(or stop running). Simply ask your doctor if you should continue in therapy, and then make your own decision. I took the time to read the above so I am not being nasty, but cut down on your running. Don't you know that all long distance runners have problems with their legs or feet, because what you are doing is not natural. Think, is running this long distance normal? You will do what you want anyway, but stop hurting yourself.
Good luck!
References :
The pain is coming from your kneecap, it has the tendon to it shortened up and that is pulling the kneecap up on and into your knee which makes it hard and painful to bend your knee. This type of problem usually shows up after some trauma to the knee, getting it knocked against something or falling on it, or from sports. Once you release the kneecap it will move down to where it belongs so it is no longer being pulled into your knee and the pain will be gone. Here is how to release that tendon for your kneecap:
Kneecaps:
Do while sitting on a chair with no front cross braces.
While sitting have your leg resting in a stretched mode. Place both your thumbs, side by side, about 2 inches behind the kneecap and press down into your leg and then redirect the pressure a little towards the kneecap. After 30 seconds, slowly slide your foot back and under your chair as far as it will go, release the pressure but hold your foot there for another 30 seconds.
The important part of this is the pressure on your leg, if there isn't enough this won't work. If you do have that problem try it again. I once had a gal email me that it was the third time but she was so thankful she wrote a nice thank you. Just to let you know more than once may be needed.
References :
Why do I have knee pain?
Ima marathon runner (26.2 miles every year for the past 4 years)
Pain began in soccer around october - november of 2009.
I ran 13 miles without strecthing in December 2009 /:
I went to the doctor 2-3 weeks before the 18 miler around February 2010 & I
was diagnosed with "runners knee" due to "over running" - it hurts
when yu push down on my knee cap, my doctor said my knee cap started to
scratch my bone (I was in soccer, training for the marathon & in
cross country all at one time but I've always ran, it's what I love to
do!) my doctor gave me physical therapy, a knee brace (I was told to
wear it whenever I'm at school or running, but I don't) I went 3 times
to physical therapy. My phys therapist told me I needed to work on
making my hips stronger & thighs so my knee cap can slowly go back into
place because the leg works as a whole & did my exercises when told
but I haven't gone since the first week of
March & I stopped doing my excersizes around the 2nd week of march.
Eversince physical therapy, my knee cap has been getting random pains
they go away but come back. They come when I sit or stand, walk or
run, it just hurts at random times & lately I've been getting the
pains even longer & more painful (on the scale from 1-10, 10 being
severe, my knee pains are a 7), why do I get these knee pains? Should
I start going back to physical therapy? Is it because I stopped going
to physical therapy or is it because of physical therapy that my knee
has been hurting more? Cos it didn't hurt this much. I miss playing
sports :( it sucks when sports are my life it starts hurting when I
run long distances within 20-30 minutes. & it's even hurting right now
as I type! :( I'm scared because my doctor told me that I could have
this for life. Please help me on what's going on with my knee? (it's
my right knee & my left knee doesn't get these pains)
Your help is very much appreciated! <333
